How many Great Lakes teams are in this week's Top 25 high school football rankings?

Silos, smokestacks, steeples and stadium lights. The Great Lakes region is molded by its horizon. North Coast communities are defined - in part - by Friday nights.

Here's our latest look at the top prep football teams in a landscape that houses the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Lambeau Field, the Big Ten Conference, Notre Dame and several of the top high school programs in the history of the sport.

State champs, national acclaim, big-time talent. North Coast football is a force. So are the following teams from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

1. Mentor (Ohio) – 7-0
Last Week (1): The Cardinals notched their second shutout and outgained Brunswick 517-83 in total yards in a 45-0 win over Brunswick (Ohio). Junior quarterback Ian Kipp threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores. Ranked No. 14 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 10/19, 1 p.m. at Shaker Heights (Ohio) – 2-5



2. St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) – 4-2
Last Week (2): The Hawks scored the game’s first 42 points in a 42-21 win over rival Archbishop Wood (Warminster, Pa.) at Widener University. Ranked No. 22 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 10/18, 6 p.m. at Father Judge (Philadelphia) – 3-3

3. Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) – 6-1
Last Week (3): Junior Shane Hamm (quarterback) and Victor Dawson (running back) each ran for three touchdowns as the Knights beat Lake Catholic (Mentor, Ohio) 49-6.
Next Up: 10/18, 7 p.m. vs Padua Franciscan (Parma, Ohio) – 3-4

4. Muskegon (Mich.) – 7-0
Last Week (4): The Big Reds recorded their fourth straight shutout with a 49-0 win over Union (Grand Rapids, Mich.).
Up Next: 10/18, 7 p.m. at Mona Shores (Norton Shores, Mich.) – 6-1

5. East St. Louis (Ill.) – 7-0
Last Week (5):
The Flyers beat O'Fallon (Ill.) 51-3 thanks in part to three touchdowns from junior receiver Dominic Lovett. Lovett caught four passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt 74 yards for a score. .
Next Up: 10/19, 1 p.m. at Belleville East (Ill.) – 2-5

6. Washington (Massillon, Ohio) – 6-0
Last Week (6):
The Tigers scored 21 points off turnovers and also blocked a punt in a 48-12 win over Gateway (Pa.). Senior quarterback Aidan Longwell connected with junior receiver Jayden Ballard for a 95-yard touchdown, which is the longest pass play in Massillon history.
Next Up: 10/18, 7:00 p.m. at Barberton (Ohio) – 5-2

7. Southern Columbia Area (Catawissa, Pa.) – 7-0
Last Week (7):
The Tigers beat Wyoming Area (Exeter, Pa.) a 42-0 in a meeting of state-ranked undefeateds. The victory was Southern Columbia’s 79th straight regular season win and 40th straight overall.
Next Up: 10/18, 7 p.m. at Montoursville (Pa.) – 8-0



8. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – 7-0
Last Week (8):
The Griffins exploded for five touchdowns in their first 15 plays en route to beating Lockport (Ill.) 45-7.
Next Up: 10/18, 7 pm vs Sandburg (Orland Park, Ill.) – 2-5

9. Muskego (Wis.) – 8-0
Last Week (9):
The Warriors beat Kettle Moraine (Wales, Wis.) 48-0.
Next up: 10/18, 7 p.m. at Waukesha South (Wis.) – 1-6

10. St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) – 6-1
Last Week (10):
Running back Joey Formani ran in from 6-yards out with 11:16 to play as the Eagles edged archrival St. Ignatius 7-3 in the Holy War.
Next Up: 10/18, 7 p.m. vs Clarkson Football North (Mississauga, Ontario) – 3-4
