Softball Game Preview: Fairport Red Raiders vs. Upper Sandusky Rams

The Fairport Red Raiders will venture away from home to take on the Upper Sandusky Rams at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Fairport is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

11 must be Fairport's lucky number: they beat Greece Arcadia/Greece Olympia with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Red Raiders beat the Lightning by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1.

Leila Hernandez looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Julia Poligone was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Waverly Milliman was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.

Meanwhile, Upper Sandusky has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.63 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They fell 14-9 to Our Lady of Mercy.

Ella Frombaugh was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Madison Wengerd was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and three runs while going 2-for-4. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Hart, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Fairport pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.3 runs this season. As for Upper Sandusky, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 6-2.
