Baseball Recap: Leroy Wins Going Away Against Hoopeston

LeRoy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Hoopeston on Thursday. The Panthers blew past the Cornjerkers 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brock Owens made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Braeden Fox was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Bo Zeleznik was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

LeRoy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoopeston only posted a batting average of .258.

LeRoy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Hoopeston, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-18.

Coming up, LeRoy will challenge Lexington at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Minutemen have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Hoopeston, they will take on Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.33 runs per game on average), something the Cornjerkers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
