Basketball Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Lakeland Dreadnaughts

Having just played yesterday, the Sumner Stingrays will jump right back in to play the Lakeland Dreadnaughts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Sumner's tournament run continued when they took on Sports Leadership & Management on Thursday. The Stingrays put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 73-52 victory. The Stingrays have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Sumner got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Immanuel Kelly out in front who went 6-for-12 en route to 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Kelly is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Karson Coleman was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Lakeland waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 61-54 victory over the Spartans.

Sumner's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Lakeland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Sumner couldn't quite get it done against Lakeland in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as they fell 81-70. Thankfully for the Stingrays, Derajah Hardy (who shot 77% from the field on his way to 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time.
