Basketball Recap: Torrey Pines Comes Up Short

Torrey Pines's game on Friday was all tied up 30-30 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 54-49 to the Cathedral Catholic Dons. The Falcons were not able to make up for their loss to the Dons from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Torrey Pines lost, don't look at Tevaris Green. Despite the final result, he shot 6-for-9 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine boards. Green is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Chase Rogowski, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

Cathedral Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Charlie Barajas out in front who went 7-for-11 en route to 16 points and eight boards. Max Meza was another key player, shooting 45% from the field on his way to 15 points and three steals.

Torrey Pines now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Cathedral Catholic, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Torrey Pines and Victory Christian Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. The Falcons' defense better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 60.5 points per game this season. As for Cathedral Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Dons will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
