Softball Recap: Monarch Takes a Loss

Monarch fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Fort Lauderdale on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fort Lauderdale Flying L's by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.

Mia Macaione spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Mylie Carlson and Emily Phipps stepped up to the plate in a big way. Carlson scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Phipps scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Monarch has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. Fort Lauderdale now has a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Monarch will square off against Pembroke Pines Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pembroke Pines Charter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Monarch's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fort Lauderdale, they will face off against Taravella at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
