Soccer Game Preview: Buchanan vs. Redwood

The Buchanan Bears will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Redwood Rangers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Buchanan is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Buchanan's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Hoover with a sharp 6-0 win. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Patriots are ranked 644th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Redwood). They were the clear victor by a 5-1 margin over Tulare Union last Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rangers needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Buchanan's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-0-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 24 goals over those six contests. As for Redwood, the win got them back to even at 3-3-4.

Buchanan beat Redwood by a goal in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Buchanan since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
