Sudan is a perfect 7-0 against Petersburg since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Sudan Hornets will venture away from home to take on the Petersburg Buffaloes at 11:00 a.m. Sudan has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Sudan came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against New Home, falling 22-12. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (11), the Hornets still had to take the loss.
Daniella Ramirez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February. Nalleli Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Even though they lost, Sudan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. This was only their first loss (out of nine games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Petersburg came into Tuesday's game having lost ten straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 24-20 win over Ralls on Tuesday. The Buffaloes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
KYNLEE OVALLE was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of E Rendon, who scored three runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Petersburg's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Sudan, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7-1.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sudan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .597. However, it's not like Petersburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sudan took their win against Petersburg when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 15-7. Will Sudan repeat their success, or does Petersburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
