Basketball Recap: Eagle Pass Comes Up Short

Eagle Pass blew Pearsall out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Pearsall got their revenge. The Eagles fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 68-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (57), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Jeremy Rodriguez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 32 points and ten boards for Pearsall. Those 32 points gave Rodriguez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Rodriguez, who posted 18 points.

Eagle Pass is on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points over those games. As for Pearsall, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Eagle Pass will host East Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Pearsall, they will square off against Sinton at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks will be up against the Pirates' rather soft defense (which has allowed 64 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
