Recap: Fairfax Stampede vs. Sierra Linda Bulldogs

The Fairfax Stampede scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 73-37 win over Sierra Linda at home. Given Fairfax's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Sierra Linda is ranked 259th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fairfax to victory, but perhaps none more so than Melanie Romero, who scored 28 points along with five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Romero has scored at least a third of Fairfax's points. Another player making a difference was Ajana Kenyatta, who scored 24 points along with eight steals and five rebounds.

Sierra Linda's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amairany Meza, who scored six points along with ten rebounds. Shania Holmes was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.

Fairfax pushed their record up to 10-8 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Sierra Linda, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfax won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Metro Tech at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Metro Tech has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5. As for Sierra Linda, they will be playing at home against Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
