Basketball Recap: ALA - West Foothills' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

After a string of seven wins, ALA - West Foothills's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks, falling 59-39. The Guardians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Shamrocks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, ALA - West Foothills still got an impressive performance from Izabella Juarez, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 boards. Juarez is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last 16 games she's played dating back to last season. Haven Updike also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Yuma Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sadie Estes out in front who went 8 of 13 en route to 16 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Amanda Wiley, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

ALA - West Foothills' loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-7. As for Yuma Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

ALA - West Foothills wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 89-50 victory against Parker on the 27th. As for Yuma Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-25 win against Kingman on the 27th.
