Basketball Recap: Grace Samuelson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Concordia over Archbishop Bergan

If Concordia was riding high fresh off their 65-28 takedown of Tekamah-Herman last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Concordia Mustangs took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Archbishop Bergan Knights on Monday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Concordia's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Samuelson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Samuelson a new career-high in steals (five). Eliza Secrest was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Concordia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Archbishop Bergan only pulled down 11 offensive boards.

Claire Mlnarik was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alina Ortiz, who posted six points and three steals.

Concordia's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Archbishop Bergan, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-10.

Concordia wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 32-20 win against Lincoln Lutheran on the 30th. As for Archbishop Bergan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-19 defeat against Lincoln Christian on the 28th.
