Basketball Recap: Elida Gets the Win

Elida proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 27) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-50 win over the Estancia Bears.

Estancia's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Rubio, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. Rubio continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Hernandez, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

The victory got Elida back to even at 5-5. As for Estancia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elida will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Floyd at 7:00 p.m. on January 16, 2025. After both having extra time off, Estancia and Navajo Pine will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
