Baseball Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Von Steuben

Von Steuben had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Amundsen on Wednesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Vikings. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won six in a row.

Axel Rivera made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Von Steuben is 6-2 when Rivera posts two or more runs, but 5-8-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Matteo Banuelos was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Isaiah Davalos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Von Steuben pushed their record up to 11-10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Amundsen, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season.

Von Steuben will have a chance to go back-to-back against Amundsen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
