Volleyball Recap: Manteno's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of nine wins, Manteno's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Beecher Bobcats by a score of 2-1. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Bobcats when the teams met back in October of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Manteno sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-21.

Maddie Gesky paced Manteno's offense, picking up ten kills. Gesky got some help from Danika Fletcher and her 15 assists. Kendall Blanchette controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Beecher to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elena Kvasnicka, who had 15 kills, eight digs, two aces, and one block. Kvasnicka has been hot for a while, having posted seven or more kills the last 21 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emily Avelar, who had 13 kills and 11 digs.

Manteno's loss dropped their record down to 29-5. As for Beecher, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-13 record this season.

Manteno didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Bishop McNamara on the 28th. As for Beecher, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Catalyst-Maria on the 28th.
