Volleyball Recap: Manteno's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

It was a good run, but Manteno unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Beecher Bobcats by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2023.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Manteno sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-21.

Manteno's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morgan Derrico, who had 13 digs. Danika Fletcher was another key player, getting 15 assists and three digs.

Manteno's loss dropped their record down to 29-5. As for Beecher, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-13.

Manteno and Beecher should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Panthers will face off against Bishop McNamara at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (89 vs. 281). Meanwhile, Beecher (ranked 251st) will meet Catalyst-Maria (ranked 743rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
