Basketball Recap: Southside Cardinals vs. Jay Mustangs

Southside played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 42-19 to the Jay Mustangs. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Southside got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of McKayla Flores and Alisson Gonzalez, who each put up six points. Flores also led the team in assists with two. Gabryela Galvan held things down on the boards with four rebounds.

Ny'Ashia Barnes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Jay, going 5 of 10 en route to 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Barnes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Annalicia Rosa, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 24-7. As for Jay, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-8.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing South San Antonio the next time they take the court. Jay will host South San Antonio at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Southside will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th.
