Basketball Recap: North Schuylkill Takes a Loss

North Schuylkill was the 47-36 winner over Minersville when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. 2025 welcomed the North Schuylkill Spartans with a 54-28 loss courtesy of the Minersville Battlin' Miners on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 567th, while the Battlin' Miners are ranked 78th).

Leading Minersville to victory were Dante Carr and Shazier Bethea. Carr dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards, while Bethea went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points along with seven assists and three steals. Bethea has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradley Kostishak, who posted six points and eight boards.

This is the second loss in a row for North Schuylkill and nudges their season record down to 3-10. As for Minersville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

North Schuylkill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-60 defeat against Tamaqua on the 9th. As for Minersville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-30 win against Pine Grove on the 9th.
