Baseball Game Preview: Blythewood Bengals vs. Sumter Gamecocks

The Blythewood Bengals will head out to take on the Sumter Gamecocks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Blythewood is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 14 games.

Blythewood is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: West Florence, who was ranked 12th at the time (Blythewood was ranked second). The Bengals were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Knights on Thursday. The Bengals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Amare Counts was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jackson Bottar was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

Blythewood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Sumter lost 8-1 to South Florence on Friday.

Blythewood's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Sumter, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Blythewood came out on top in a nail-biter against Sumter in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Bengals repeat their success, or do the Gamecocks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
