Basketball Recap: Holt Bresach's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Amherst County over Altavista

Amherst County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 62-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Altavista Colonels. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 73-67 back in December of 2024.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Holt Bresach, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Bresach a new career-high in blocks (three). Braeden Hicks was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Amherst County's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Altavista, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Amherst County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 75-58 victory against Liberty on the 24th. As for Altavista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-63 win against Chatham on the 24th.
