Volleyball Recap: Monta Vista Comes Up Short

Monta Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Homestead Mustangs. The Matadors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Monta Vista actually scored more points across those five sets (100-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 25-22, 19-25, 15-25, 25-18, 15-10.

Despite the loss, Monta Vista saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Srahi Bobbili had 30 digs and two aces. Bobbili has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more digs the last four times she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Homestead to victory, but perhaps none more so than Natalie Chen, who had 31 digs and six assists. That's the most assists Chen has posted over her last eight matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilian Logan, who had 33 assists and 11 digs.

Monta Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Homestead, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.

Monta Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Palo Alto on the 16th. As for Homestead, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Los Gatos on the 16th.
