Volleyball Recap: Carvando Mayas and Dillon Hommel Secure Win for Cactus

Cactus won the last time they faced St. Mary and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Cobras walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Knights.

Cactus was especially dominant in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 24-26, 25-11, 25-22.

Cactus was led to victory by Dillon Hommel and Carvando Mayas. Hommel had six digs and three aces, while Mayas had six digs and two aces. Those six digs gave Mayas a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Cactus was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in three consecutive matchups.

Cactus' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14. As for St. Mary's, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-10.

Cactus has already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Agua Fria on the 17th. As for St. Mary's, they will venture away from home to square off against Marcos de Niza at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights are facing the Padres at the right time seeing as the Padres are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
