Softball Recap: Garner Trojans vs. Cleveland Rams
Garner extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-5. They came up short against the Cleveland Rams, falling 18-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 6-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.
As for Cleveland, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Cleveland's part, Karsyn Hudacky was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Hudacky has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jenna Chapman was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Murphy, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Garner will face off against Southeast Raleigh at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 12.4 runs per game this season. As for Cleveland, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-2 win against Harnett Central on the 19th.
