Volleyball Recap: Wakefield Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Green Level, Wakefield was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Sanderson Spartans. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won seven in a row.

Wakefield walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the third set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 24-26, 25-11, 25-17.

Lila Piburn paced Wakefield's offense, picking up 14 kills. Piburn really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 14. Gigi Ugur controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

When it comes to explaining why Sanderson lost, don't look at Ryleigh Roche. Despite the final result, she had 12 digs and two aces.

The victory got Wakefield back to even at 1-1. As for Sanderson, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Wakefield and Wake Forest will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sanderson, they will head out to face off against Rolesville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
