Preview: Green Canyon Wolves vs. Layton Christian Academy Eagles
Two dominant players in Janalynn Blotter and Asmin Tanhan are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Green Canyon Wolves have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Layton Christian Academy Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on December 29th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Green Canyon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They slipped by Fremont 45-44.
Green Canyon found their leader in underclassman Talyssa Nelson, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. That's the first time this season that Nelson scored 15 or more points. Tori Jeppson was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Layton Christian Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Mountain Crest last Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 50-45 victory.
Layton Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tanhan out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Tanhan has scored at least 25% of Layton Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Jessica McKain, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Green Canyon pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Layton Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Green Canyon have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.6 threes per game. It's a different story for Layton Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 threes per game. Given Green Canyon's sizeable advantage in that area, Layton Christian Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
