Recap: Etowah Blue Devils vs. Southside Panthers
The Etowah Blue Devils''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They lost to Southside at home by a decisive 45-27 margin. While losing is never fun, Etowah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Southside is ranked 82nd).
Mason Teague had a dynamite game for Southside, rushing for 241 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Teague was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bryan, who threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes.
Etowah's loss was their fifth straight at home , which bumped their record down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Cherokee County and 7-2 Oneonta (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.6% over those games). As for Southside, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Etowah will head out on the road to face off against West Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Morgan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Etowah likes a good challenge. As for Southside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boaz at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Boaz's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four matches.
