Softball Game Preview: Fryeburg Raiders vs. Spruce Mountain Phoenix

The Fryeburg Raiders are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Spruce Mountain Phoenix at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Fryeburg is leaving town to face Spruce Mountain after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Raiders came up short against Gray-New Gloucester two weeks ago, falling 9-3.

Fryeburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Azaela Grant, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Spruce Mountain came up short against Oak Hill on Monday and fell 9-4. The loss put an end to the Phoenix's undefeated start to the season.

Santika Hodgkin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Fryeburg suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Spruce Mountain when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
