Softball Recap: South Central Trojans vs. Perkins Pirates
South Central had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it four. They lost 19-4 to the Perkins Pirates. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Sydnee Middaugh was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ember Phillips, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Perkins, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Perkins, who have now won four contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
On Perkins' side, they got a great performance from Maycee Bohn as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Hannah Koelsch was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Natalie Martin was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Coming up, South Central will welcome Western Reserve at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Perkins, they are taking a road trip to square off against Firelands at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
