The Buffalo Grove Bison will venture away from home to challenge the Carmel Corsairs at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Buffalo Grove will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Buffalo Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Elk Grove, taking the game 9-5.
Sammie Kosnoff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Paige Veller was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Emaline Sara also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Buffalo Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Carmel, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Benet Academy 4-3 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Corsairs have posted against the Redwings since April 21, 2021.
Carmel also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kaitlyn Konen gave up three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Konen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ali Rice, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Buffalo Grove's record now sits at 7-8. As for Carmel, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Buffalo Grove hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Carmel struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 home runs.
