Football Game Preview: Godley Wildcats vs. Hillsboro Eagles

Two dominant backs in Adam Pempsell and Braylen Benson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Godley Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hillsboro Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillsboro took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Godley, who comes in off a win.

Godley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Venus 76-8. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Ryder Papasan went supernova, throwing for 146 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Kaleb Hand was another key player, rushing for 89 yards and one score on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Godley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. They are 4-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Meanwhile, Hillsboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a 56-14 loss at the hands of Dunbar.

The win made it two in a row for Godley and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.5 points over those games. As for Hillsboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Godley took their win against Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 23-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
