Softball Preview: Gar-Field Red Wolves vs. North Stafford Wolverines

The Gar-Field Red Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the North Stafford Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gar-Field is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Gar-Field came up short against Charles J. Colgan on Tuesday, falling 17-2.

Gar-Field saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Desiree Bruffy, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Ly Na Nguyen also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

North Stafford let Stafford stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Tuesday but luckily North Stafford prevailed anyway. The Wolverines won by a run and slipped past the Indians 6-5.

Kaylie DeChicchis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Addy Aragon and Kaylee Lizardo did most of the damage at the plate: Aragon went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double, while Lizardo got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Aragon has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyleigh Campbell, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

North Stafford pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Gar-Field, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Gar-Field might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from North Stafford in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Red Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
