Baseball Game Preview: Potomac School Panthers vs. Trinity Christian Gryphons

The Potomac School Panthers will take on the Trinity Christian Gryphons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Potomac School will be strutting in after a win while Trinity Christian will be coming in after a defeat.

Potomac School headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Calhoun Academy let them put that streak behind them. Potomac School put the hurt on Calhoun Academy with a sharp 15-2 victory on Wednesday. The Panthers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 1, 2024.

Gavin Speigel spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Will Piester was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Pence, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Piester wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Potomac School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Trinity Christian faced The Covenant in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Trinity Christian fell just short of The Covenant by a score of 4-3. The Gryphons' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lucas Fisher was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Brody Frank led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Isaac Norman was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Trinity Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Potomac School, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
