Football Recap: Monte Vista Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Monte Vista had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Pasadena Bulldogs with a sharp 42-21 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Monarchs who have now won six matchups in a row.

Despite the defeat, Pasadena saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dutch Burbidge threw for 430 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 53 yards on only six carries. The dominant performance gave Burbidge a new career-high in passing yards. Anthony Fields was another key player, picking up 163 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.9 points per game. As for Pasadena, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-7 record.

Monte Vista will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Summerville at 3:00 p.m. Summerville will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Monte Vista surely won't give up without a fight. Pasadena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
