Basketball Recap: El Paso Takes Down Americas in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and El Paso had no trouble coming through when it counted. They managed a 54-50 win over the Americas Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Brody John was his usual excellent self, putting up 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Todd Gray, who posted 12 points and three steals.

El Paso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches.

Americas' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JOSH PICHARDO, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 20 points. PICHARDO's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of ETHAN SALINAS, who earned eight points and nine rebounds.

El Paso's win bumped their record up to 18-16. As for Americas, with the loss, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-11.

El Paso didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-52 defeat against Legacy on the 20th. Americas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
