Basketball Recap: Maverik Goad's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grayson County over Alleghany

Grayson County lost against Alleghany on January 2nd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Grayson County Blue Devils took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alleghany Trojans. The Blue Devils' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maverik Goad, who went 7 for 13 en route to 20 points and five boards. Makray Goad also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alleghany to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lance Shatley, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points. John LeMasters was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Grayson County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Alleghany, they moved to 8-9 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Grayson County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-53 loss against Marion on the 29th. As for Alleghany, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-52 victory against North Wilkes on the 28th.
