Sevier County (Sevierville, Tenn.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 48-27 win over
Morristown-Hamblen West (Morristown, Tenn.).
The Smoky Bears scored 14 points in the first quarter. Sevier County scored on a kick return touchdown by
Logan McCarter and a passing touchdown.
After taking the lead on a kick return touchdown by McCarter in the first quarter, SC led 24-14 at the half.
The Sevierville school expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. The Smoky Bears scored three times in the third, including once on a field goal by
Jared Baxter.
McCarter played well for Sevier County in the victory. The senior wide receiver ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown.
Malachi Horton made a difference for the Trojans. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.
SC also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 28-7.
The defeat comes as a step back for Morristown-Hamblen West, which notched a 27-0 victory over Morristown-Hamblen East in its previous outing. With the win the Smoky Bears extended their winning streak to three games.
Sevier County (6-1) goes up against Cherokee in a AAA District 2 game matchup next week, while Morristown-Hamblen West (4-3) locks horns with Jefferson County also in a AAA District 2 game.
