For the first time this season, Albertus Magnus will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will square off against the Nyack Red Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Albertus Magnus' offense. They lost 8-0 to Tappan Zee on Tuesday.
Albertus Magnus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Sullivan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Nyack never got on the board in their matchup last Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Port Chester last Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Rams a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Red Hawks' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Thomas Giardina was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Giardina was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.
In other batting news, Nyack got a massive performance out of Nate Cantor, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave Cantor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Devin Bierfeldt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Nyack always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Port Chester only posted an OBP of .167.
Nyack's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Albertus Magnus, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Albertus Magnus was able to grind out a solid win over Nyack in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 11-8. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
