Baseball Recap: San Marcos Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mission Hills last Wednesday, San Marcos came back down to earth. San Marcos took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Santa Fe Christian Eagles on Friday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Isaac Esquer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, San Marcos saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stephen Pittman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. That's the most hits Pittman has posted since back in May of 2024. Grayson Wren also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

San Marcos' loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Santa Fe Christian, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Marcos will square off against Maranatha Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Marcos is facing Maranatha Christian at the right time seeing as Maranatha Christian is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Santa Fe Christian, they will face off against Rancho Bernardo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rancho Bernardo's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Santa Fe Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
