Basketball Recap: Maxwell Comes Up Short

Maxwell lost against Cambridge back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Maxwell Wildcats lost 65-39 to the Cambridge Trojans. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-15.

When it comes to explaining why Maxwell lost, don't look at Jesse Reyes. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 13 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Huffman, who posted five points and three steals.

Cambridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maverick Webb, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 22 points and five steals. Webb's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Krayton Ruggles, who went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points along with eight boards and six steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Maxwell and nudges their season record down to 3-10. As for Cambridge, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.

Maxwell will head out to face off against Brady at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maxwell is facing Brady at the right time seeing as Brady is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Cambridge, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wauneta-Palisade at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Cambridge's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Wauneta-Palisade has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
