Softball Recap: West Mesa Finds Home Field Redemption Against Highland

There's no place like home for West Mesa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past the Highland Hornets 20-0 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the match before.

Trinity 'Toots' Bazan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Bazan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Mya Baca was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Evelyn Lopez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

West Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .920. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

West Mesa has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 16 runs. Highland dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

West Mesa wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-2 loss against Aztec on the 27th. As for Highland, they have also already played their next matchup, a 14-12 defeat against Socorro on the 27th.
