Baseball Game Preview: Fort Payne Wildcats vs. Scottsboro Wildcats

We've got a battle between Wildcats coming up. Fort Payne is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

On Saturday, Fort Payne beat Plainview 5-1.

Fort Payne got a great performance from Preston Ledford as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Griffin Winn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Malcolm Jackson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Scottsboro, as they earned their first road win of the season. They had just enough and edged out Fairview 9-8. Nine seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Scottsboro has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. Fort Payne's victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Fort Payne skirted past Scottsboro 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Fort Payne repeat their success, or does Scottsboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
