Baseball Recap: Lakewood Takes a Loss

Lakewood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pender, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Leopards fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in February.

Reed Ammons made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lakewood: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Aden Norton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Lakewood has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Pender, their record now sits at 5-13.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will look to defend their home field on Monday against Neuse Charter at 6:00 p.m. As for Pender, they will challenge Heide Trask at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.2 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
