Baseball Game Preview: Mountain View Spartans vs. Wilcox Chargers

The Mountain View Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Wilcox Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mountain View 3.2, Wilcox 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Mountain View can't be too worried about heading out to take on Wilcox: they just beat Homestead at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Spartans came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 4-1 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.

Brennan Dooley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Austin Xu was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Christian Bandy, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Wilcox waltzed into their match on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Acorns. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by just one run.

Wilcox pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain View, their record now sits at 12-5.

Mountain View came up short against Wilcox in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
