Volleyball Game Preview: Willow Canyon Wildcats vs. Sunrise Mountain Mustangs

Willow Canyon is 1-8 against Sunrise Mountain since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Willow Canyon will be strutting in after a win while Sunrise Mountain will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Willow Canyon faced off against Kellis on Wednesday. The Wildcats walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Cougars. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.

Willow Canyon had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.

Willow Canyon can attribute much of their success to Noah Caplan, who had 13 digs and four assists. Tommy Doyle also deserves some recognition as he had his first digs of the season.

Meanwhile, Sunrise Mountain didn't have quite enough to beat Desert Edge on Thursday and fell 3-2. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sunrise Mountain actually scored more points across those five sets (101-96), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 14-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13.

Sunrise Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 17-13. As for Willow Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 21-9.
