Softball Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

Southside extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-2 in the process. They came up short against the Bentonville Tigers, falling 18-0. The Mavericks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Bentonville, their victory was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

For Bentonville's part, Darby Burnett looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Burnett has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Violet Nguyen was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anniston Reith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southside will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Fayetteville at 5:00 p.m. on May 1. As for Bentonville, they will take on Pea Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
