Baseball Recap: The Academy Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but The Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Kent Denver Sun Devils. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Sun Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Dylan Akers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 15 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because The Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-6 otherwise. Akers was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Kameron Forsyth was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Carter Koepsell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The Academy's record now sits at 5-7. As for Kent Denver, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Sun Devils beat The Academy by a score of 9-8 on Tuesday.
