Baseball Recap: Greensburg Comes Up Short

Greensburg fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against East Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-6. The Pirates have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.

Caleb Greiwe and Ethan Smith did some serious damage despite the final result: Greiwe went 2-for-5 with two doubles and one run, while Smith went 2-for-5 with one triple and one RBI.

Greensburg's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for East Central, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greensburg will square off against Union County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.56 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Central, they will take on Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
