After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hamburg, Berks Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Antietam Mountaineers with a sharp 18-1 win. With that victory, the Saints brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Brinley Harter made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Harter was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giana Mirenda, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sophia Bradley, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.
Berks Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Berks Catholic's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Antietam, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berks Catholic will take on Kutztown at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight. As for Antietam, they will challenge Wyomissing at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
