Basketball Game Preview: Piedra Vista Panthers vs. Gallup Bengals

Piedra Vista hasn't had much luck against Gallup recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Piedra Vista Panthers will take on the Gallup Bengals at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Piedra Vista beat Shiprock 47-35.

It was another big night for Tyra Holyan, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 18 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Piedra Vista's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordis Fage, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points.

Meanwhile, Gallup put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 66-27 win over St. Pius X. The Bengals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 28 points or more this season.

The victory got Piedra Vista back to even at 6-6. As for Gallup, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.

Piedra Vista and Gallup were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but Piedra Vista came up empty-handed after a 50-49 loss. Can Piedra Vista avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
