Baseball Recap: Catholic Central Comes Up Short

Catholic Central extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-3. They fell 7-3 to the Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hilltoppers of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Living Word Lutheran, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs this season.

For Living Word Lutheran's part, Jackson Oliver and Jack White made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Oliver struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, White pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Oliver a new career-high. At bat, Oliver went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while White went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, Gavin LaPerriere and Gavin Weissenburger did most of the damage at the plate: LaPerriere got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Weissenburger went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases LaPerriere has posted since back in May of 2025. Owen Sather was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Looking ahead, Catholic Central will face off against Kenosha Christian Life at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Living Word Lutheran, they will challenge Campbellsport at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Timberwolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
