Recap: West Craven Eagles vs. SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars
The West Craven Eagles''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of SouthWest Edgecombe by a score of 31-28. West Craven was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as SouthWest Edgecombe apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why West Craven lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malik Brown. Despite the final result, he rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns. DJ Davis also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
SouthWest Edgecombe was led to victory by Jhakari Lovely and Jalen Willoughby. Lovely rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown, while Willoughby rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
West Craven's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 7-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 SouthWest Edgecombe and 7-3 West Craven (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.5% over those games). As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
West Craven does not have any more games scheduled as of now. SouthWest Edgecombe also has no future games currently scheduled.
